General

SWRSToys

SWRSToys is a library which sets hooks on DirectX calls used by the game and provides a set of pluggable modules implementing various features. There are also other modules on this page that use SWRSToys as a base. The download for the game provided by the #hisouten discord includes this by default.

Guide for the default included mods.

To disable an SWRSToys based mod, open SWRSToys.ini in the Soku directory add a semicolon (;) to the line calling that mod.

To enable an SWRSToys based mod, remove the semicolon (;) to the line calling that mod in SWRSToys.ini.

To add a new SWRSToys based mod, add the folder containing the .ini and .dll for the mod into the Modules directory within the Soku directory. Then add the line

=Modules//.dll

to SWRSToys.ini where is the name of the mod.

Included Mods:

BGMChanger: Allows the user to provide audio files in .ogg format to be used as in-game audio. See here for a list of BGM names and locations.

MemoryPatch: Provides various memory modifications for convenience.

NetBattleCounter: Counts the amount of games played in a netplay session.

NetBellChanger: Similar to BGMChanger, but modifies the netplay bell instead.

NetProfileView: Changes the way profile names are rendered in game.

ReplayDnD: Allows Soku to open replay files by drag and dropping them into the .exe.

ReplayInputView: Adds an overlay to replays which shows the inputs of the players in real time.

WindowResizer: Allows the game window to be resized in windowed mode.

SokuEngine

SokuEngine is a plug-in system that allows you to manage plugins with a GUI and aims to make it easier to develop them by providing an api.

Installation Instructions

SokuEngine relies on SWRSToys, so make sure you have it installed already.

Download SokuEngine.dll from here: Download

Create a new folder in your Modules folder called SokuEngine and place SokuEngine.dll inside.

Back in your main soku folder open SWRSToys.ini and add the following line: SokuEngine=Modules/SokuEngine/SokuEngine.dll

Because SokuEngine will be handling module loading instead of SWRSToys, make sure to comment out any other modules in SWRSToys.ini by appending a ; to the start of any other lines except one above.

Now start up the game. If SokuEngine is installed correctly there will be a new option on the main menu called ConfigEx (you can control this menu using your mouse). Firstly you should go to the Updater section and update and install any modules you want. Next, in the Modules section you should tick and configure any modules you want enabled.

Note: If you are installing any new modules, it is suggested to enable them though the ConfigEx menu rather than through SWRSToys.ini to prevent compatibility issues.

SokuRoll

Mod by Fireseal that improves soku's built in netplay by adding rollbacks. This mod is essential for online play, almost all netplay is done using it. It allows for netplay without slowdowns even at higher latency making, for example, transatlantic matches perfectly playable.

DPad Fix

SWRSToys Module by fishshapedfish that adds full DPad and Trigger support to fix controller recognition in Soku.

To install, copy the DPadFix folder into your Modules folder and add this line to SWRSToys.ini:

DPadFix=Modules/DPadFix/DPadFix.dll

With this mod, D-Pad inputs in soku create virtual analog directions and the triggers are mapped as: LT=Button16, RT=Button15. You can set these like any other real buttons using the regular Key Config.

Due to the way triggers work on a shared Z axis in DirectInput, simultaneous left and right trigger presses will cancel out to no button press. Be sure to consider this when setting up your controller layout.

Some controllers already have built in trigger mapping which will cause double inputs when configuring your controller. To fix this you can disable DPadFix’s trigger mapping feature by opening Modules/DPadFix/DPadFix.ini with a text editor and modifying the following section:

[TriggersToButtons]

Enabled=0

You can also alter the sensitivity of the triggers by adjusting the Threshold= value here too. The threshold is the minimum trigger Z value before the virtual button is considered pressed. 0 is not pressed and 1000 is fully pressed, 200 is default.

If you are on a fresh install of Windows and DPadFix doesn't seem to be working you may need to install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 x86 for the module to run: Download

Characters In Foreground

SWRSToys module by Ichirin which makes characters appear above the HP bars, weather clock and character portraits. If you have problems with seeing people hiding at the top of the screen this mod is a great solution. Most of the bugs and irregularities should be fixed now. If you have crashes report how to reproduce them in the #soku-mods channel on the #hisouten discord. Install like any other SWRSToys module. Download

Gameplay Mods

Mods that change the gameplay of Hisoutensoku. Will desync online if both players do not use it.

Weather Disable

Quick and dirty memory patch by delthas which sets the weather tick to 0 using the SWRSToys MemoryPatch module (make sure you have MemoryPatch enabled). Remember to disable this before you play online against opponents who don't use this mod or it will desync. Add these lines to your Modules/MemoryPatch/MemoryPatch.ini:

Randomizer

Mod which randomizes move flags (e.g high/low/unblockable/melee/bullet), effects, hitsounds, hitstun and more. This leads to a hilarious nonsensical infinite filled mess. The mod was adjusted to remove effects deemed "game breaking" (e.g. attacks that crash the game or cause the opponent to be unattackable) while keeping infinites and unblockables. The actual randomizer tool is currently still in development so is not publicly available. You can play a pre-randomized th123e.dat replacement however (be sure to backup your original th123e.dat): Download

NextSoku

NextSoku is a framework for customizing gameplay mechanics in Touhou Hisoutensoku. This includes characters' attacks and some system mechanics.

After its release, Soku gained a big following, but the original developers shortly stopped providing patches. Since version 1.10, released in 2009, the game had no updates.

NextSoku is an attempt to provide such an update, and better yet, it lets players make their own dream version of Soku.
